From the artist: These works are the people and places of Johannesburg through my optimistic eyes. They are prayers for a hoped-for future and longed-for outcome for all. My hope is that the viewer can see their own city and its people in the same light, with a bright and vibrant future ahead. I want people to take a different sense of Africa with them: a different idea of what Africanness is, what the cities of Africa are about, and what the people of Africa are about.
Vivien Kohler was born in Cape Town in 1976, and lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa. He received his National Diploma in Fine Art from the Ruth Prowse School of Art and Design, Cape Town, 2000.
