Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890)Attributed: Road With Houses, signed Vincent. Brown ink on paper. Framed under museum glass.
Accompanied by certificate of inspection from art historian and painting conservator Bruce Wood, MFA.
In May 1890 Van Gogh finally left the asylum at Saint-Remy and traveled north to Paris to see Theo for a few days before moving on to the small community of Auvers-sur-Oise, which would be his home for the remaining few months of his life. The sketch offered here appears to be a preliminary study of the same houses which appear in his painting Village Street in Auvers. For reference, a photo of that painting is included in this listing, but it is not included in the sale.
