Known for satirical genre, especially of high society, Guy Pene Du Bois was a prominent New York artist in the early 20th century, and was part of the group that broke with conventional approaches of the National Academy of Design. Often his work seemed to have a narrative that was mysterious but addressed issues of urbane sophistication.

Condition
Excellent condition; a quarter inch area in the left, central quadrant of the canvas has been professionally patched from behind and retouched; a very light impression of the stretcher bars are visible from the front of the canvas; light frame rub resulting in paint loss on all four edges of the canvas; very light surface scratch upper left quadrant; upper right corner of canvas is slightly loose. The frame is fractured and has repairs throughout.
