African Tribal Art: Luba People, Zaire: Female Fetish Figure. Carved wood with attached animal horn at the crown of its head. Brass tacks adorn the forehead; a wrapped bundle held by a braided fiber cord rests on the pregnant stomach; a pointed object (a thorn?) protrudes from the navel; a patinated woven band/skirt surrounds the hips, and copper/metal rings adorn the ankles. Overall dark, fine patina. Mid 20th century.
