African Tribal Art: Baga People, Guinea: Tall mask in the form of a woman. Carved wood, mid 20th century. Designed to be held aloft by two lower handles, this mask has finely carved facial features, coiffure and neck rings. This style of mask symbolizes the fertility of women and crops, and also could herald the graduation of young girls from initiation school. It comes with a custom-made steel display stand.
