Emile A. Gruppe (American, 1896-1978) Attributed: oil on academy board, signed bottom right, framed in an antique frame. The academy board is from M.M. Ross Co. a popular New England artist's supply store in the 1930's.
Emile Gruppe was an American painter and one of most notable members of the Cape Ann School. Predominantly known for his landscapes evocative of Claude Monet, Gruppe’s paintings are indicative of the prominent modernist style found in the Rockport School. Gruppe was equally as skilled as a teacher as a painter and mentored many, including Otis Cook, from his studio in Rockport, Massachusetts.
His landscapes are some of his most sought after compositions and make a beautiful addition to any collection.
22.5 x 28 inched framed. 18 x 24 inches board.
Private collection, Boston, MA, USA.
Condition
Good aged condition. Some surface grime can be seen in the sky. There is a little bit of craquelure all over, but it is most evident in the tree to the right of the barn.
