African Tribal Art: Suku, Zaire, Double Male/Female figure. Carved wood, Early 20th Century. This intriguing and unusual sculpture shows a male and a female figure sharing the same body, but not in a harmonious way. The female faces one way and has a single leg, her buttock resting on a stool, while at her back is a male with similar pose. The meaning and use of this piece is unknown.
