Carl Weber (American, 1855-1925): Pastoral with Cows. Watercolor on cold pressed paper, set in antique frame.
Weber was the American-born son of the German artist Gottlieb Daniel Paul Weber. Much of his artistic training was undertaken in Europe, including his studies under Karl Raupp at the Munich Royal Academy of Fine Art, and lessons with Jakob Becker and Johan Eduard von Steinle . Weber returned to Philadelphia in the 1870s, where he was particularly celebrated for his idyllic, pastoral views of the Pennsylvanian countryside, of which the present work is an especially charming example.
