- Lot Description
Amedeo Modigliani (Italian, 1884-1920) Attributed: Portrait of a Woman. Ink and blue crayon on cardboard, signed lower right, framed. This drawing is possibly preparatory work for a portrait of Anna Zborowska This drawing is accompanied by a very destressed document in French dated 1906 and documents from Mark Winter at Art Experts.
Amedeo Modigliani was an Italian painter and sculptor who worked mainly in France. He is known for portraits and nudes in a modern style characterized by elongation of faces and figures, that were not received well during his lifetime, but later found acceptance.
15.25 x 11 inches framed; 13.75 x 9.5 inches board.
Private collection, Italy.
Fair overall condition. The subject work is curious as the surface appears faded or worn. The ink has a muted gray tone, as does the blue wash. The reverse side of the board appears non-archival, with a dark brown coloration. The edges of the verso contain traces of paper with cursive handwriting. Despite signs of age, there are no identifying markings on the reverse that link the work to a major exhibition, gallery or auction. The board has a convex warp.Condition
