African Tribal Art: Dogon People, Mali: Carved wooden covered bowl with a large carved horse finial. Mid 20th century. The bowl and cover are incised with abstract decorations. The importance of horse and equestrian iconography to the Dogons indicates that this vessel may have served a ritual purpose.

Condition
Good condition with an overall dark patina. All four legs of the horse have old tribal repairs. They are wrapped and repaired at the ankles. The object has scuffs and other signs of handling and use.
