African Tribal Art: Dogon, Mali. This mask represents Yasigine, the only woman admitted to the Awa male Society. Carved wood rectangular mask, worn cotton cloth attached to cover back pf the dancer's head. Surmounted by a female figure most likely carved separately and attached. Wood, cotton. beads. Evidence of insect damage in the inside and the rim.
