1939, New York. A prominent designer, Ralph Rueben Lifshitz established one of the greatest fashion empires in the world. His brand primarily focuses on the idea of creating a contemporary American lifestyle. Lifshitz was born and raised in New York City. He later changed his name to Ralph Lauren. Following high school, he attended business classes at night and while also worked in sales. He started his own necktie business in 1967, selling his distinctive line of ties. Lauren's designs have been defined by a fashion that evokes the aesthetic of English royalty since the beginning of his company. In 1968, he launched his first menswear collection, which included traditional tweed suits. Likewise, in 1971, he introduced his first womenswear line, which continued his experiments with traditional tailoring and excellent taste, although with a feminine touch. A year later, Ralph Lauren launched a sport shirt with a symbol of a polo player, which would go on to become the signature item of the brand.
Ralph Lauren's design started becoming internationally recognized after several male actors in the movie called The Great Gatsby (1974) wore items of clothing from his popular line. The brand also received acclaim when Ralph Lauren created apparel worn by actress Diane Keaton and actor Woody Allen in a rom-com movie called Annie Hall. Ralph once stated that he was only interested in timelessness, and longevity, rather than fashion. This motto has been represented in many of his designs throughout the years. His new concepts—such as safari or Southwestern themes —were mainly emphasized on highlighting classic American clothing. Discover Ralph Lauren apparel and accessories for sale at leading auction.
