Pedro Friedeberg

1936, Italy. A contemporary artist, Pedro Friedeberg is celebrated for his sculptures, paintings, and prints. His works interlink psychedelic motifs and architectural principles. Pedro Friedeberg is mostly associated with Surrealism, a movement that flourished in the 1910s. His famous works, titled Hand Chair brought him wide acclaim. In his work, Friedeberg pushes the boundaries of furniture design by creating a furniture piece in the shape of a hand. Born on January 11th of 1936, Friedeberg traveled to Mexico when he was only 3 years old, in an attempt to escape the Holocaust. At a very young age, he was fascinated with gothic architectural designs and Renaissance books. Later, he earned a degree from Universidad Iberoamericana, leading him one step closer to becoming an architect. However, in 1960, he decided to drop out of architecture college in order to emphasize on painting.

It was only then that Friedeberg became familiar with the circles of Surrealist artists, such as Leonora Carrington, and Remedios Varo.
