USA, 1908. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Goerge Nelson was soon to be one of the most prolific home designers of his time. After his death at the age of 77 in 1986, many questioned, Was he born to design and change the face of modern design? The road to success for Nelson started when he went to architecture school at Yale. in 1932, American Academy in Rome provided him with a fellowship to study modern design. His career kick-started in 1935 when he started working for Architectural Forum as an editorial staff. He then worked in the company for 9 years before moving to Herman Miller, Inc. D.J. Nelson took the position of Design Director which enabled him to create furniture inspired by European designs and work with prolific designers of his time. In 1947, he also started his own design company George Nelson Associates, Inc. along with wonderful and will known colleagues at the time.
His work was highly recognized and hence he is now known as the founder of modernist American design.
