France, 1775. Breguet is a premium watch, and jewelry maker founded in 1775 in France by Abraham-Louis Breguet. He spent five years studying watchmaking with Jean-Antoine Lépine and Ferdinand Berthoud before opening his own shop in Paris. The dowry he received as a result of his marriage to the daughter of a wealthy French family gave him the funds he needed to start his own workshop. The company, Breguet has been a part of the Swiss Swatch Group since 1999. With its headquarters in Switzerland, it is one of the earliest known watchmaking firms and a pioneer of various watchmaking inventions, including the tourbillon.
