Founded 1883. Gustav Stickley founded Stickley Brothers & Company in 1883, along with his brothers Charles and Albert. The company is known for its luxurious collection of vintage furniture and handicrafts that evokes the functional simplicity of pre-industrial eras. The American furniture manufacturer was considered to be a forerunner in the American Arts and Crafts movement and recognized for publishing the first issue of The Craftsman magazine. In 1903, the range of products expanded from furniture to textiles, lighting, and metalwork. Over the years, the specialty of Stickley’s shifted from heavy oak wood furniture to light furniture designs and materials, however, furniture produced between 1900 and 1904 remains most popular amongst collectors.
