Canadian-American, 1912-2004. Agnes Martin immigrated to Taos, New Mexico from Canada in the 1930's where she began producing Abstract linear compositions in subtle hues. Her talents were discovered by Betty Parsons who brought her to New York in 1957 to live and work with other Post-War Abstract Expressionists such as Ellsworth Kelly and Ad Reinhardt. In 1967, Martin moved back to Taos and stopped painting for many years until returning to painting in the mid 1970's with bolder forms and a palette inspired by her surroundings.
