Auction Description
Oferly is thrilled to present "Against the Stream", an auction featuring renowned Latin American artists such as Jorge Monroy, José María de Servín, José Manuel Díaz Medina, Sadek Reynolds, Jose Luis Cuevas, Juan Kraeppellin, Eloísa Jiménez Gutiérrez, and Jorge Salazar. The lot is led by the Russian international artist Alena Vavilina, as her captivating painting "Against the Stream" serves as the guiding theme.
Our auction is a bridge between divergent stories, breaking away from tradition. Each painting is an invitation to create a different reality beyond the mainstream.
The late art critic and Guggenheim fellow Teresa del Conde named the movement of our featured artists the "Breakaway Generation" (Generación de la Ruptura), also known as Mexican muralism. These artists broke away from the established Mexican School of Painting post-World War II.
Similarly, Alena Vavilina's "Against The Stream" is a statement for peace, reverence, and nature in a movement away from wartime indoctrination.
