MILLEA BROS. “SELECT” 3 DAY AUCTION EVENT (1061 Lots)
Only the best of what comes our way, hand selected by the brothers for your buying pleasure! Featuring a newly discovered 1924 Paul Klee pencil drawing. With a great provenance and clear ownership history, this striking dadaist Machine drawing from Klee’s Bauhaus period, hung unrecognized in a charitable foundation collection for over 60 years; Contents from the estate of Gilded Age heiress Huguette Clark. One of the famous “Poor Little Rich Girls” that captivated American society in the 1920s, and gained new renown as a self-hospitalized recluse for the last decades of her life, Millea offers an astounding assortment of Fine Art, European Antiques, Rare Musical Instruments, and  Clark’s personal paintings once shown to great fanfare in a 1925 show at the Corcoran Gallery Museum; Contemporary Art and Design from the Collection of Dr. Pentti Kouri including Jasper Johns, Dennis Hopper, Mark Handforth, Jean Prouve, and Jacques Adnet. A partner of George Soros, Dr. Kouri amassed a cutting edge collection of Minimalist, Arte Povera, and Pop installation art for a private Museum.  Since his untimely death in 2009 over 350 works have sat in storage, and will be auction for the first time at Millea over the course of the year; The complete contents of a Jacques Grange interior featuring custom designed furniture. An early NYC public commission from the designer who built the private art and design collections of Yves St. Laurent, Francois Pinault, and Karl Lagerfeld; also including French Antiques and Modern Furniture from the Collection of a Recording Industry Executive; a Single Owner Collection of Ming-era Chinese porcelains and a rare and important Ming-era painted scroll;  and the Modern Art and Furnishings of a Tommi Parzinger Decorated Massachusetts estate.
