Auction Description

Estate Antiques & Fine Art Auction by Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers
Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers is proud to announce our Spring antiques and fine art auction featuring over 425 lots from estates across New England. The auction will open with 143 lots from the collection of George White of Woonsocket, Rhode Island. George was an active antiques dealer throughout New England for over 40 years as the proprietor of Gem Furniture specializing in 19th century decorative and fine arts. The highlight of George’s collection is a fine Chinese archaic bronze Gui ritual food vessel dating from the Ming Dynasty if not earlier. Other highlights from George’s collection include a historic engraving of George Washington after Gilbert Stuart’s (1755-1828) Lansdowne portrait by James Heath (1757-1834), and a 19th century American Victorian Rococo laminated rocking chair. The second portion of the catalog will feature 30 lots from the collection of Charles L. Rochon Jr., member of the Steamship Historical Society of America for over 50 years and active artist and craftsman building historically correct models of steamships. His collection to include several scratch-built models and historical ephemera from the Fall River Line. The remainder of the sale will consist of over 200 lots of antiques, decorative arts, fine arts, Asian arts, furniture, and collectibles highlighted by a bronze sculpture of a nude female torso by Ernst Seger (1868-1939). Other decorative art highlights include a bronze sculpture of women playing leap frog by Ernest Rancoulet (1870-1915) and set of four blown glass tumblers by Sol LeWitt (1928-2007) for the Whitney Museum, New York. Outside of the White’s estate Gui vessel Asian arts are highlighted by a Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain fishbowl with raised texture finished in a subtle celadon glaze. Other Asian highlights include a 19th century Chinese Famille Verte center bowl and monumental Indian enameled brass punch bowl set. The fine arts selection is highlighted by an enamel on board folk art painting of Peshaw Mountain by Howard Finster (1916-2001). Other fine art highlights include an oil on canvas landscape painting of sheep by George Arthur Hays (1854-1945) and an Impressionist oil on board landscape painting by Frederick Mortimer Lamb (1861-1936). Lastly, the highlight of the collectible offerings will be a collection of twelve signatures from the 1968 LPGA Championship game at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, Massachusetts. Preview will be held Thursday April 4th and Friday April 5th from 9:00 to 5:00, doors open day of sale at 8:00am. Prior to the catalog over 150 lots will be offered to the inhouse crowd only.
