Ann Williamson: One of a kind clothing sewn from vintage Japanese kimono silks.

I cut, sew, piece, applique and bead until the design is right. I sew the finished design into clothing. I prefer classic and clean shapes to highlight the design and maximize wearability. All pieces are hand made one at a time in my Portland, Oregon studio. My fabrics are vintage Japanese silks. These very special fabrics were woven, stenciled, tie-dyed and painted by Japanese artisans. Many were still in the bolt on their way to become kimonos. Others had been sewn into kimonos but were no longer wearable. I remove the hand stitching, wash and prepare the fabrics for their new life. Each piece I make is unique, most are one of a kind.
